Third visit of Ambassador Andrew to the province of Limón

Yorkin,Talamanca. "The vision of the women entrepreneurs in Yorkín is
impressive. Six years ago, they realized that without a school and a
high school in Yorkín, the young people would leave the community for
jobs and educational opportunities. So the women organized and built,
grade by grade, the Yorkín School and Liceo Rural Yorkín. The
educational centers provide to the Bribri the opportunity to preserve
their culture, language and, most importantly, to give their young
people opportunities within their community."
With these words, U.S. Ambassador Anne Andrew, summed up the impact of
the Association Stibrawpa of Yorkin in Talamanca, which has been working
in the community for 19 years.
The visit of Ambassador Andrew to Yorkín was part of a two-day trip to
the Atlantic region of the country, where he also handed over an
ambulance for the community and visited Small Producers Association of
Talamanca (APPTA) in Bambu, where they explained the production process
cocoa and organic production methods they use every day for your product
exports to the U.S. and Switzerland.
Dole’s Finca Bananito was included in Ambassador Andrew’s agenda, for
the important production methods environmentally friendly and innovative
holding systems for water savings in washing the fruit.
Ambassador Andrew’s visit to the Limon area highlighted programs and
projects of the United States in carrying out the mission of the U.S.
Embassy: a secure, prosperous and green future in Costa Rica and the
world.
Ambassador Andrew also had the opportunity to learn about the work of
several Peace Corps volunteers in the community L imon 2000, and met with
a group of Americans who live in Puerto Viejo to talk to them about
safety issues in the area.
